WHAT IS PROJECT CS GIRLS?
Project CS Girls is a national organization dedicated to empowering middle and high school girls to change the world using computer science and technology. The organization holds workshops throughout the country on a variety of engaging topics such as app building, data science for good, and website development. Project CS Girls offers an annual contest encouraging middle school girls to use coding skills to innovate solutions to global problems. WHAT DOES The knoxville chapter do?
Our ProjectCSGIRLS Knoxville chapter hosts computer science workshops to spark middle and high school girls' interest in computer science while empowering them to solve challenging problems. With workshops held at locations such as Tate's Middle School, we teach girls computer science and technological skills such as coding basic games in Python, cracking secret ciphers, and manipulating pixel values to create photo filters. These workshops are intended to give students with absolute beginner to intermediate coding experience the foundations they need to develop a passion for solving problems.

Saturday FEB. 17, 2018 - In this workshop held at Tate's Middle School, students learned the basics of computer programming and coded their own guess-the-number games in Python! Download our workshop handout here.
1. Students become members by signing up here and participating in local workshops. When you participate in a workshop, you not only gain skills to help you solve problems, but also a passion for creating and innovating. It feels good and benefits you academically to learn something new and apply it to a problem. By participating in a Project CS Girls workshop, you can experience the excitement of watching your code work, and leave with a sense of accomplishment.
2. By participating in a workshop, you can make friends and connect with a community of girls interested in computer science. Having a community of like-minded peers provides a positive social environment and encourages collaboration.
